Haspel’s Senate Hearings: A Foolish Interrogation
The reasons the Democrats are against Gina Haspel are: A) She’s too good for the job, and B) She’s the nominee of President Trump, who they hate (“CIA pick promises no torture,” May 10).
This is a shame. She is the most qualified candidate to run our CIA. The CIA’s interrogations of terrorists were too mild. OK, she forgot to put a red carpet down for them when they were arrested.

Talk is cheap. And Haspel knows precisely how to “talk the talk.”
But if the pressure was on and her job was at stake, would Haspel relent and allow such torture techniques as waterboarding? Given her comments on Bush-era torture, it’s difficult to take Haspel at her word.
And did anyone check behind Haspel’s back, to see if her fingers were crossed? I think that her responses to the questioning are a little bit murky. JoAnn Lee Frank Clearwater, Fla.
It’s funny how the Democrats in the Senate seem opposed to approving anyone for CIA director if they were part of the alleged torture of captives.
Waterboarding isn’t torture but an enhanced interrogation tactic. And helped lead to the locating of Osama bin Laden.
By the way, former CIA Director John Brennan was also involved in this. Yet the Democrats had no problem approving him. Was it because he was nominated by President Barack Obama? Charlie Honadel Venice, Fla.
The grilling of Haspel was disgraceful. Asking about the morality of torture and whether it’s in line with “American values” is disingenuous.
If their children were in harm’s way, and torture was the only way to save them, then let them talk about comporting to American values. Martin Carus Cliffside Park
How soon we forget 9/11, beheadings by ISIS and people being drowned in cages by these animals.
