Roseanne Should’ve Known Such Tweets Are Barr-ed

THE ISSUE: Roseanne Barr’s inflammatory tweets this week about Valerie Jarrett and George Soros.

-

Roseanne Barr says her tweets insulting Valerie Jarrett and George Soros was a joke, but America isn’t laughing (“Rosie the Bigoter,” May 30).

Racism is never funny. And as ABC canceled her No. 1 show, it turns out the joke is on her.

Roseanne should’ve known better than to talk like that. On mainstream media, the only person it’s acceptable to bash is President Trump.

Modern political correctness and comedians who try to define the line by crossing it are a very bad combination.

It’s especially ironic that ABC canceled Roseanne’s hit show on Tuesday — the same day 8,000 Starbucks closed for anti-bias training.

One of the essential threads that holds this nation together is the principle that all men and women are created equal.

The sooner people like Roseanne understand and celebrate this, the sooner America will become a more perfect union.

Far more hurtful remarks were made by comedian Michelle Wolf about Sarah Huckabee Sanders at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and they didn’t receive very much criticism. Have we become so biased against anyone who supports President Trump?

While I agree the offcolor jokes made by Rosanne were a bit much, I can’t understand the double standard.

Comedians, talk-show hosts and most of the media are constantly comparing our president to fruit, animals and worse.

So Roseanne’s show gets canceled over her tweeting crude things?

I saw nothing racist about what she said. I’ve heard worse from Don Imus when he made racist and sexist remarks about the Rutgers women’s basketball team in 2007.

Roseanne, a comedian, was immediately condemned by the media, labeled a racist and had her show canceled within hours by ABC and its parent company, Disney.

Recently, that same parent company announced it has rehired Keith Olbermann, who is not a comic, but has a long history of hatred and offensive comments.

This is a perfect example of liberal double standard.

Roseanne gets her show canceled because of a tweet, but “The View” and latenight-show hosts go merrily on their way lambasting Trump.

Conservatives are being shut out of the conversation, but liberals have free rein to do and say what they want. Conservatives get assaulted for wearing Trump hats and the media cheers. Right-wing speakers get shouted down at colleges, and they’re unable to voice their opinion.

There are two sets of standards in this country, one for the left and one for the right.

Roseanne’s tweet about Valerie Jarrett was offensive and was stupid. With this behavior, she joins the ranks of Joy Reid, Keith Olbermann, Joy Behar and Bill Maher.

The double standard is alive and well in Hollywood. What Roseanne tweeted was mild compared to the nonstop Trump-bashing.

ABC thought it would cash in by exploiting the great political divide in this country with its “Roseanne” show, and it did. Viewership was off the charts, but I’m guessing it was mostly from Trump supporters.

When it came to Roseanne’s past, ABC chose to put a set of blinders on. It took a risk, and, like that trick cigar, it blew up in its face.
