Keeping Up With Reform: Kim in the White House

-

It’s pathetic that Kim Kardashian jumped ahead of many experts on our nation’s penal system to get an audience with the president (“Kim’s Prison Realities,” Editorial, June 1).

It’s pathetic that the president of the United States needs an important topic like prison reform to be brought to him by a vacuous celebrity who is famous for being famous and for selfies.

The former realityTV-show host has turned the White House into a freak show. Sam Katz Manhattan

I spent 28 years of my life as a police officer and had my share of drug cases, and I was relieved to see the Post editorial.

I am no fan of hers, but Kardashian lobbying for criminal-justice reform is a good thing. She’s speaking out on a real issue facing America today.

Kardashian is lobbying for 63-year-old Alice Marie Johnson, who has already served 21 years of a life sentence without the possibility of pa- role for drug conspiracy and money-laundering.

Johnson says her crime was nonviolent; with that I disagree. How many died or ruined their lives by her assistance in the drug trade?

But Johnson has already lost much of her life behind bars. I think she might deserve a chance to lead a constructive life if freed.

What Johnson did was wrong, but what Kardashian is doing is right.

As The Post said, we need to deal with our troubled criminal-justice realities. Sal Giarratani Boston, Mass.

What was President Trump thinking when he invited Kardashian to the White House?

Just when you thought you saw everything. First it was Kanye West, then Kardashian, Why not make it a trifecta and invite Colin Kaepernick next? Tommy Dejulio New Rochelle

Kardashian met with Trump to try to get a drug dealer released from prison.

What about the parents and families whose loved ones died because of drug dealers? Maybe Kim should stick to doing what she is good at. John Buonagura Stewart Manor

The fact that the reality star met President Trump shows that she has power, as she lobbied the president to pardon a 63-year-old first-time drug offender.

The question is: How much power does Kardashian have and how persuasive could she be? Raquel Boujo Brooklyn
