MY WEEKEND: Justin Peck

-

I have a Fuji Feather single-speed bicycle, because New York is relatively flat and I like to keep things simple. It’s how I get around town, and it’s great exercise, too. I like to bike the loop in Central Park — from the reservoir, you get a really clear view of the foliage juxtaposed with the skyline.

I’m such a foodie, so any sort of social interaction revolves around food. There’s a good late-night spot, Coppelia, down on 14th Street that’s almost like a Cuban diner. I remember going there with the cast of a ballet documentary after the premiere, and we had a really great meal there at about 3 a.m.

Another place I go back to again and again, for a date night or catching up with old friends, is Terroir [in Tribeca]. It’s a wine bar with a great food menu. They specialize in dry riesling, which is hard to come by in New York.

I’ve been dining quite a bit lately at Union Square Cafe with [“Carousel”] director Jack O’Brien and our costume designer, Ann Roth. The cafe’s beautiful — it was designed by David Rockwell, a set designer, and it’s spacious and comfortable and the service is wonderful. They make this bibb salad that’s incredible. It’s weird to say that, because it’s a salad, but they’re known for it.

For a date night, Patricia and I like Txikito [Ninth Avenue at 24th Street], a Spanish tapas restaurant. It’s lively, they have a great bar and it’s a good place to share things with friends and loved ones.

We love gallery hopping by the High Line. What’s cool about the Whitney Museum is that you feel you can just wander in there, spend time outdoors on their roof . . . and there’s an Ample Hills ice cream shop across the street. I always try something different when I go there. It’s never vanilla or chocolate, but “cake batter with flakes and sprinkles.” It takes, like, a paragraph [to describe] each flavor!
