Casting $tones at Cuo for movie bomb

- Carl Campanile

GOP gubernatorial candidate Marc Molinaro slammed Gov. Cuomo on Monday for keeping $300,000 in donations from developers tied to a failed $15 million state-financed film studio near Syracuse.

The movie production center in Dewitt was supposed to help revive the Central New York economy.

But it has produced just two of the 350 permanent jobs promised by Cuomo, and now the state is handing over the 7.6-acre facility to Onondaga County for $1.

The county said it intends to ask the state for $1.7 mil- lion to cover operating costs and improvements.

Several Cuomo donors involved in the project are now facing federal corrup- tion charges.

“A CEO would resign or be fired for such gross mismanagement,” Molinaro said.

“The least Gov. Cuomo can do is give back the money he made from the deal, or donate it to the state treasury.”

The Cuomo campaign de- clined comment on the donations, referring questions to the state Empire State Development Corporation.

“We believe local management of this public asset gives the facility the best chance,” said ESDC spokesman Jason Cornwall.

“The county’s film commissioner has leased space in the facility since 2015; and they have a strong, holistic plan for promoting further development of the film industry in Central New York.”

He didn’t address the Cuomo campaign contributions.
