FOOTBALL: Manziel throws TD in rout

Johnny Manziel was 12-of-20 for 88 yards and a touchdown and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats scored 30 straight points to beat the Montreal Alouettes, 30-15, on Saturday in the final preseason game for both teams in Montreal

The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner at Texas A&M also ran for 19 yards, and is set to back up starter Jeremiah Masoli — rested against Montreal — next Saturday at Calgary in the regular-season opener.

GOLF: Two sit atop St. Jude

Andrew Putnam matched the best round of his short PGA Tour career with a 6-under 64 and tied Dustin Johnson atop the St. Jude Classic in Nashville, Tenn. In position to reclaim the No. 1 ranking with a victory, Johnson had a 65 to match Putnam at 15-under 195. A two-time winner on the Web.com Tour, Putnam birdied No. 18.

Stewart Cink, who had a hole-in-one on No. 8, matched his low round of the year with a 64 to get to 10 under.

In Des Moines, Iowa., Tom Lehman might finally get an elusive senior victory in Iowa after so many close calls. Lehman shot a 7-under 65 to take a two-shot lead into the final round of the PGA Tour Champions’ Principal Charity Classic.

In Galloway, N.J., Sei Young Kim birdied seven of her last 10 holes for a share of the lead with Celine Herbin in the suspended second round of the ShopRite LPGA.

Kim was 10 under for the tournament with three holes left when play was suspended because of darkness.

ETC.: Crawford stops Horn for WBO belt

Terence Crawford threw a bevy of punches toward the end of the ninth round to stop Jeff

Horn and win the WBO welterweig­ht title in Las Vegas. He has now won titles in three different weight classes.

After dropping Horn with 50 seconds left in the ninth round, Crawford unleashed a slew of punches that sent the former champion into the ropes, prompting referee Robert Byrd to stop the fight with 28 seconds left in the round.

In Chicago, CM Punk lost his second MMA fight to Mike Jackson on the undercard at UFC 225 by unanimous decision, 30-26 on all of the cards.
