Gronk calls trade talk nothing but ‘fake news’

- Post staff report

Rob Gronkowski spent most of Saturday on Long Island rooting on his namesake horse in the Belmont Stakes, but the Patriots tight end took a moment earlier in the day to deny wild trade rumors that swirled around the web on Friday.

According to a poster on Reddit (who just happened to have revealed Julian Edelman’s four-game PED ban on Wednesday, a day before ESPN broke the news of the wide receiver’s ban) and later Friday per Barstool Sports, Gronkowski’s New England career was on the verge of ending before the weekend. Gronk’s response? “Fake news,” he told the Boston Herald on Saturday.

Since Gronkowski was still on the Patriots as of Saturday, it seems his take was correct.

Gronkowski, who has been the subject of numerous recent stories reporting he is unhappy after eight seasons in New England, was less forthcoming when asked by the Herald if he would be on hand for the Patriots’ final organized team activities next week.

“I don’t know,” he said in response to a question of whether he would be seen at OTAs. “Depends where you’re at.”

Though he may not be there for the OTAs, Gronkowski (along with similarly hard-tofind quarterback Tom Brady, who is expected to skip next week’s OTAs) was on hand for the team’s mandatory minicamp this past week.

“Minicamp went great,” Gronkowski told the Herald.
