IMPOSING TERMS LIMITS

Hey, killer Kim’s not so bad: prez

- David K. Li

President Trump on Wednesday praised North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un for being a “tough guy.”

During an interview on the Fox News Channel, Bret Baier pressed Trump about North Korea’s dismal human-rights record, pointing out that Kim has “done some really bad things.”

“Yeah, but so have a lot of other people have done some really bad things,” Trump replied. “I mean, I could go through a lot of nations where a lot of bad things were done.”

Kim seized power after the December 2011 death of his dad, “Dear Leader” Kim Jong-il.

Baier pointed out that Kim’s path to power involved murdering potential rivals.

“You know, you call people sometimes killers, he is a killer. He’s clearly executing people,” Baier said.

Still, Trump praised the dictator for consolidating power.

“Hey, he’s a tough guy. When you take over a country — a tough country, tough people — and you take it over from your father, I don’t care who you are, what you are, how much of an advantage you have,” Trump said.

“If you can do that at 27 years old, I mean, that’s 1 in 10,000 that could do that. So he’s a very smart guy. He’s a great negotiator.”

North Korea has up to 120,000 political prisoners in gulags, where they’re subjected to hard labor and torture, according to Amnesty International.

Trump on Tuesday became the first US president to sit down with a North Korean ruler when they met in Singapore to discuss denuclearization by the Hermit Kingdom. After the meeting, Trump told reporters that he did address human rights with Kim. But again, Trump suggested Kim isn’t the world’s worst dictator.

“It’s rough [in North Korea],” the president said. “It’s rough in a lot of places, by the way, not just there. But it’s rough.”

Everybody can now feel much safer than the day I took office. There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea. — Trump tweet
