Plight of the Pizza Man: A Slice of Immig. Debate

-

Pablo Villavicencio seems to be a hard-working man who loves his family (“‘Daddy isn’t here,’ ” June 11).

What happened over the years regarding his immigration status is a failure on the part of politicians who just want to pass the buck.

It’s the immigrant who suffers the tragedy of being a “nowhere man.”

If every politician did their job, they would start helping every immigrant who wants to live here become citizens, so they don’t have to go through this mess. Lorraine Zanzonico Brooklyn

This man was here illegally since 2010. The right thing to do would be to deport him, in spite of the knee-jerk hysteria that somehow he is a victim.

The family suffered. OK. Did the illegal immigrant or his bride think about the possible consequences of his status when they decided to marry? Whose fault is it they decided to have kids while he was here illegally? Jay Pelc Brooklyn

My father and grandparents are from Mexico. They came to the United States in 1962. They came here legally and obtained green cards.

Being in this country illegally to begin with is a civil violation. So whose fault is it that this guy was detained in the first place? His own.

Illegal immigrants do not deserve the same rights as the people born here or who came here legally. We can’t let everyone who decides to come here trample over our laws. Christopher Morris Red Springs, NC

This joker is illegal. He had an outstanding warrant on him since 2010, and he had no driver’s license. And people think he did nothing wrong?

Go over to Ellis Island and you’ll see my mother’s name scripted on a brick. Within two years, she obtained US citizenship, and later sent four sons off to war.

She never asked for handouts nor received them. Mary Woodruff Cedar Park, Texas

Villavicencio applied to be a citizen. He is married and working to raise his family. What is the problem? He is a man living and working to make his family’s life better. Alfred Bonnabel Manhattan

The undocumented pizza delivery man said, “My only crime is to work and be a family man, a father to my daughters.” Really? Because he was here illegally.

ICE officials ordered him to get out. Did they really believe he would? Doesn’t ICE follow-up on those who have been ordered to leave to make sure they don’t stay?

Having said that, it really is a heartbreaking situation. What a mess. Bunny Abraham Manhattan
