Robby on arrests: ‘I did nothing wrong’

- By ZACH BRAZILLER

Robby Anderson wasn’t apologetic.

He addressed his offseason criminal charges on Wednesday for the first time, saying, “I did nothing wrong.”

But the Jets’ big-play wide receiver also knows he can’t continue to get in trouble with the law. He was arrested in January for reckless driving and allegedly threatening to sexually assault a police officer’s wife. Anderson talked about his need to mature.

“I’m doing everything in my power to avoid all those situations, because that’s not me, that’s not the place for me,” he said on Wednesday before the team’s second practice of mandatory minicamp. “I’m an NFL football player. So I’m doing everything in my power to avoid anything to even get me close to those type of situations.”

In January, the 25-year-old Anderson was arrested for the second time in nine months, and initially faced nine charges, three of them felonies, when he was pulled over for driving 105 miles per hour in a 45-mph zone and running multiple red lights.

Eight of those charges, though, were dropped. He still faces a reckless driving misdemeanor. Anderson’s previous issue came the prior May, when he was arrested for resisting arrest following an alleged physical altercation with a police officer at a Miami music festival. Those charges were dropped.

“The truth always comes to the light,” he said, expressing vindication.

Anderson could still face discipline from the NFL for violating it’s personal conduct penalty. But not until this other case is resolved, at which point he will meet with the league.

“I don’t think [I’ll be suspended],” Anderson said.

Anderson said he was not told this is his last chance, and coach Todd Bowles didn’t address a similar question, deferring to the team’s policy on not talking about player incidents.

“We’re confident in Robby’s ability and the person he is so we’ve put that to bed on our end,” Bowles said.
