De Niro’s Tony Tirade: A Pro-Trump Response

-

The fact that Robert De Niro was boorish enough to insult President Trump at the Tony Awards does not excuse an equally boorish flag being held up during a Broadway performance (“Back atcha, De Niro!” June 18).

I am not a Trump hater, but I cannot defend much of what he says. Still, the proper place to discuss someone’s views on Trump is not in front of a captive audience hoping to enjoy a show.

I suspect neither the flag-waving boor nor the foul-mouthed film star can offer a cogent criticism of the president. Hatred blinds even normally right-thinking people. Anthony Magarello Lewisville, NC

Let me get this straight: A fan of our president holds up a “Trump MAGA 2020” flag at the end of the play “A Bronx Tale” and is quickly escorted out, but De Niro can utter profanities and get a standing ovation?

Does anyone else see the hypocrisy that the left generates every day? Thank God for Trump and his supporters. Maybe we will finally be on the right track. Morgan Cross Staten Island

Brian Strumwasser, the hair-department supervisor on “A Bronx Tale,” is the perfect example of how liberals live the motto, “Do as I say, not as I do.”

His comments after the Trump supporter raised a pro-Trump flag proves it. He said: “Whoever the lowlife scumbag [is] who thinks it’s OK to post their political views at a Broadway show. . . was thankfully removed from the theater Saturday night.”

Once again, it’s perfectly OK for a liberal to disrupt the Tony Awards to curse out Trump, but not for someone to disrupt a Broadway show in support of the president.

Strumwasser and De Niro have ensured that I will never attend another Broadway show. Bret Wallach Glen Cove

Three cheers for the president’s fan who disrupted the De Niro-directed Broadway play.

Finally, a Trump supporter giving the leftist, Trump-hating Broadway actors and audience a taste of their own medicine.

I remember the cast of “Hamilton” embarrassing Vice President Mike Pence and his family after the play ended. Ed Moffitt Brooklyn
