Giants shake up staff under GM Gettleman
There were sure to be changes after Dave Gettleman took over as the Giants’ general manager, and the team on Wednesday announced a series of moves in the front office, college scouting and football operations departments.
Kevin Abrams, the assistant general manager the past 16 years, was given an added title of vice president of football operations. Abrams’ role likely will increase with Gettleman undergoing treatment for lymphoma. Abrams, the team’s salary-cap expert and chief contract negotiator, is positioned to be Gettleman’s successor down the road.
Mark Konz, brought in by Gettleman as a consultant prior to the draft, was hired on a permanent basis as the director of player personnel. Konz worked with Gettleman on the Panthers. Chris Petit, an area scout the past 13 years, was named director of college scouting.
“We talk all the time about the importance of working together and communicating effectively and efficiently,” Gettleman said in a statement. “These appointments and promotions are well deserved, and we feel like we are well-positioned to move forward with the group of people we have in player personnel and football operations.”
The Giants moved Patrick Hanscomb from the pro personnel department to a role as an area scout. Marcus Cooper, previously with the Bills, was hired as an area scout.
In other moves, Ed Triggs is the football operations coordinator, Ty Siam is football operations/data analytics, Charles Tisch is a football operations assistant and former Giants linebacker Jessie Armstead is a special assistant to the general manager. John [Jackie] Miles is the team’s new head equipment manager.
