Fraud raps vs. Bibi wife

- Yaron Steinbuch

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s wife was served a slew of fraud charges Thursday for allegedly using $100,000 in public funds to order fancy meals from celebrity chefs — despite having a full-time cook.

Sara Netanyahu, 59, had her staff fork over the state funds for gourmet grub at the official prime minister’s residence in Jerusalem, Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit said.

According to the charge sheet, the meals were ordered from several wellknown Jerusalem establishments, including an Italian restaurant, a Middle Eastern grill joint and a sushi spot.

Since the Netanyahus already had a cook, they weren’t supposed to bill the government for their meals.

To cover up her ruse from September 2010 until March 2013, Mrs. Netanyahu (inset) ordered that the official chef on staff be listed as a maintenance worker, prosecutors said.

Mrs. Netanyahu and Ezra Saidoff, a former deputy director general of the prime minister’s office, were charged with aggravated fraudulent receiving of an item or items, fraud and breach of trust, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported.

If convicted, Mrs. Netanyahu could face a maximum sentence of five years in prison for the most serious charge, although that appears unlikely.

She has denied any wrongdoing
