State Sen. Marty Golden (D-Brooklyn) must think his job is to make laws . . . for other people to follow. At least, when it comes to traffic laws.

As The Post has reported, the senator racked up more than 40 tickets over the past five years, including for running red lights, speeding and parking in bus stops. He has also used a parking placard to impersonate an officer and bully a cyclist.

When caught, he’ll try to talk his way out of penalties. This month, after his Cadillac was spotted in a bus stop, he was seen chatting up a traffic guard, giving the agent his card and joining him in a fist bump.

“He clogged up the street with no regard and got caught, and then felt he could get away with it,” a witness told The Post.

Golden has also eyed another way to skirt tickets: by pushing a bill to simply scrap speed cameras in school zones. Those cameras caught him speeding 14 times since 2013, including three just this year alone.

No wonder a small crowd protested outside his Brooklyn office Friday — with five of them, including City Councilmember Brad Lander, getting themselves arrested.

Golden’s office claims that, despite his bill, he actually backs the use of speed cameras. Maybe that’s true — as long as they don’t catch him.

Memo to the senator: Laws apply to everyone, especially those charged with making them. And if cameras make it harder for violators like him to avoid penalties, well, his record shows just why they’re needed.
