The heat wave is hellish, but holiday revelers are in heaven.

“Today the weather is wonderful for the beach,” Oleg Sobchak, 56, said Saturday as he relaxed at Coney Island near his home. “It’s hot, it’s sunny, it’s dry. This is my only day off, so I am enjoying it here.”

Jessica Lopez of Bay Ridge, 25, used the opportunity to work on her tan, stretching out on a lounge chair on the sand.

“We’ve been waiting all summer for this,” she said. “We’re going to stay on the beach all day today, and probably all day tomorrow.”

Temperatures are expected to hit 98 degrees Sunday, but it will feel closer to 110 degrees as the humidity climbs, said Dave Samuel, an AccuWeather meteorologist.

The last time it got this hot in the city was July 18, 2013, said Samuel, who noted recent heat waves haven’t been quite as warm.

“It’s going to stay toasty all week,” he said, predicting temps in the 90s for July 4 and beyond.

The National Weather Service has an “excessive heat watch” in place for New York until 9 p.m. Monday.

While many enjoy a summertime sizzle, the combination of heat and humidity can trigger heatrelated illness, especially for seniors and those with chronic health problems.

More than 80 percent of heat stroke deaths in recent years were in homes without A/C, the city Health Department said.

“I never stay indoors when it’s hot,” said Ingvor Van Zuuk, 75, a Bay Ridge resident who was walking along the Belt Parkway bike path. “I don’t mind the heat at all. I like it.”

For the less enthusiastic, the city has “cooling stations” open in libraries, senior centers and other locations, and the FDNY offers spray caps for hydrants.

But some New Yorkers don’t need a cooldown.

“I’ll take the heat over the cold anytime,” said Tarek Abdelrahman, who serves coffee on the corner of 52nd Street and Lexington Avenue.

“Last winter it was so cold — 18 years I’ve been here and I’ve never seen anything like it. The heat is much better.”
