Democrats’ ICE Meltdown: A Disaster in the Works

-

In almost every state last week, there were thousands clamoring for the dismantling of ICE (“Overreaching on ICE,” Editorial, July 5).

Why? Because ICE had the audacity to separate children from their parents who crossed our border illegally.

Only one problem: It wasn’t ICE at all. It was another agency connected with border protection.

Another prime example of organizers on the left stirring up hysteria among their ignorant followers. Marty Orenstein New Hyde Park

How quickly these blabbering progressives forget that the Immigration and Custom Enforcement Agency was created as a direct result of the horrific events of 9/11.

At that time, we were made tragically aware of how easy it was for individuals who wish to do us harm to enter our country.

Mayor de Blasio, Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Liz Warren and their ilk do not have a clue about protecting our borders. Do they need another 9/11 to understand that?

We may need to rethink certain policies, but we must never think we should do away with border security. J. Paino Manhattan

The calls to get rid of ICE stem from a sick immigration system that has failed for years. We have a president who is trying (without an iota of help from the left) to fix a broken system, and he is criticized.

America has always welcomed immigrants, but with some kind of law and order.

No one wants to see anyone suffer. These immigrants come from a life of poverty and rampant crime. They live it daily.

But both sides need to sit down and attempt to fix this problem. Getting rid of ICE is not a solution. It’s a grab for votes. Nothing else. Sam King Manhattan

The Democrats see themselves as the party of the intellectuals.

If so, why are many on the left forcing candidates with the best chance of defeating President Trump in 2020 to back policies that are at best idiotic and at worst dangerous?

When Trump wins the presidency again, the Democrats will have no one to blame but themselves, or when he picks a successor for Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Janet Rose North Arlington, NJ

Still enraged over the administration’s now scuttled family-separation policy, hard-left Democrats are on a mission to melt down ICE.

At the forefront of this no-borders brigade are Cynthia Nixon (the pompously progressive New York gubernatorial candidate) and upstart socialist politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Nixon went so far as to call ICE a “terrorist organization.” As the late, great Bob Grant used to say, “It’s sick out there, folks, and it’s getting sicker.” James Hyland Beechhurt

Why don’t liberals understand the difference between legal and illegal immigration?

We already have good immigration laws on the books. If liberals don’t like that, which they obviously don’t, America has a way to change it— the democratic process.

Proposed legislation can be introduced in Congress, debated and voted on.

That can be arduous, but it’s better than change by fiat or disregard of the law entirely, which liberal elitists and their fellow travelers favor. William Neubeck Freehold, NJ

ICE is just doing its job and enforcing our laws — laws we need.

What the Democrats are proposing is open borders and letting anyone in. I suggest thinking that all the way through. The drug war and MS-13 would be a good place to start. Paul Inverso Staten Island
