Amazin’ brass has Callaway’s back

- By HOWIE KUSSOY

If John Ricco gets the job as the Mets’ full-time general manager, Mickey Callaway won’t have to worry about his.

Earlier this week, the first-year manager told The Post he wondered whether GM Sandy Alderson’s leave of absence for cancer treatment would impact his future, but Ricco offered Callaway reassurance the cur- rent front office believes he was still the right hire.

“My perspective hasn’t changed at all,” Ricco said Friday before the Mets beat the Rays 5-1 at Citi Field. “Obviously, I was a big part in bringing Mickey on board. I have a lot of confidence in him.” With Noah Syndergaard set to make his first rehab start Sunday at Single-A Brooklyn, the right- hander could then be reinserted into the rotation for Friday night’s game against the Nationals.

Syndergaard, who hasn’t appeared in a game since May 29 because of a strained ligament in his right index finger, is scheduled to throw 65-70 pitches. The Mets will give Chris

Flexen his first start of the season Sunday against the Rays, then open Monday’s doubleheader with Zack Wheeler, followed by

Corey Oswalt. Tuesday’s starter has yet to be determined.

Ricco said the Mets have no plans yet to bring up Tim Tebow yet, and aren’t considering sending him to Triple-A.

“The thing with him all along was going to be Fa- ther Time, and whether he has a long enough window in order to make this happen, but he’s trending in the right direction,” Ricco said. “Every month it seems he gets better and better, and I know he made the All-Star team, and I know that that’s exciting. At Double-A, he’s more than holding his own.

“I think it’s a great story ... and we’ll see where it goes.”
