Report: Brewers acquire Moose
The Brewers late Friday night added a potent bat to bolster their push for the playoffs — acquiring third baseman Mike Moustakas from the Royals, according to a report.
The Royals dealt the lefty-hitting Moustakas to Milwaukee for outfield prospect Brett Phillips and righty reliever Jorge Lopez, MLB.com reported, quoting a source.
Moustakas has 20 homers and 62 RBIs, along with a .249 batting average, a .309 on-base percentage and a .468 slugging average.
The Brewers, at 60-36, lead the NL wild-card race and are 1 ¹/2 games behind the Cubs in the NL Central.
Astros add reliever
The Astros acquired righty reliever Ryan Pressly from the Twins for righty Jorge Alcala and outfielder Gilberto Celestino.
Hamels officially a Cub
The Cubs officially acquired veteran left-hander Cole Hamels from the Rangers for right-hander Eddie Butler, minor league pitcher Rollie Lacy and a player to be named. The Cubs are responsible for paying Hamels $5 million.
D’backs deal for Escobar
The Diamondbacks acquired switch-hitting infielder Eduardo Escobar from the Twins for minor league right-hander Jhoan Duran and outfielders Gabriel Maciel and Ernie De La Trinidad.
Mariners acquire righty
The Mariners bolstered their bullpen by acquiring right-handed reliever Sam Tuivailala from the Cardinals for minor league pitcher Seth Elledge.
