Anderson wants to add weight heading into year

- By ETHAN SEARS esears@nypost.com

Robby Anderson came to New York in 2016 as an undrafted free agent trying to make a roster. He enters training camp as the Jets’ unquestioned No. 1 receiver, coming off a year in which he nearly touched 1,000 yards, earning him breakout status.

In other words, it’s different now, especially after an offseason that included an arrest on nine charges in Florida that could result in a suspension. But Anderson is trying to keep it the same.

“Same approach same — well not same approach,” Anderson said. “Understand the business, the game a little bit more, but I just come in with the same attitude. I don’t really try to get too high or too low. Trying to win and that’s something that we have to improve on as a team. That’s what I’m focused on.”

Still, those charges will hang over him as the NFL continues to review the case.

“Trust me man, I don’t like to have the Jets in that light, know what I’m saying?” Anderson said.

As for on-field play, Anderson started to notice changes on the field toward the beginning of last season, then again toward the end. The game slowed down for him, he said, and chemistry developed with quarterback Josh McCown.

Anderson said he weighs 175 pounds — not too far off from where he did as a rookie (he guessed that was somewhere in the 170s as well) — and wants to hit 180 when camp ends. The weight room isn’t his forte. He prefers working on speed, a trait that better fits his game.

Even his confidence is the same as when he was just trying to make the team.

“I always believed in myself since a young kid,” Anderson said. “I don’t try and hype the game up too much — I’ve been playing football since I was a kid, so that’s kind of the mentality that I take is at the end of the day: It’s football. I’m here to do my job, so I don’t really — I’ve always been confident in myself.”
