Adams backs up loud talk

- By ETHAN SEARS esears@nypost.com

Jamal Adams got to the podium after Saturday’s practice with a question of his own: “How do I look?”

Minutes earlier, Todd Bowles had been asked about Adams’ presence. It’s the kind of trait that stands out during a long practice in sweltering heat.

“We have eight guys on [the] All-BS talking team,” Bowles said, “but he can back it up. … We love having him talk.”

Now, Adams was unknowingly answering the question all by himself. Turns out, he makes himself known.

The Jets’ free-wheeling second-year safety is known as a hard-hitter and a loud talker. He was a bright spot last season — a top-10 pick that played like one — and now he comes in with experience under his belt.

“The game slowed down,” Adams said. “I know a lot more, but I’m still learning, obviously. But each and every day, I’m just trying to learn a little bit more than the day before.”

Last season, Adams racked up 63 tackles and an All-Rookie team spot. It was as good a start to his career as the Jets could have asked for, and to hear Adams tell it, he expects to build on it this fall.

“I think I’m just going out there, I’m knowing my assignment,” Adams said. “I’m playing with better eyes. I’m going out there trying to make as many plays as possible to help the team.”

The Jets’ pass defense has room to grow. Alongside Adams at safety, Marcus Maye is also in his second year, linebacker Darron Lee in his third, and defensive linemen Leonard Williams and Henry Anderson in their fourth.

“I think each year as a professional athlete you get better,” Adams said. “You learn more, you learn to jell as a team, jell as a defense and an offense, playing with your teammates and knowing what they’re doing before the ball is snapped.”

On Sunday, the pads come on and the hits start coming. Adams knows that means it will get a little different.

“It’s time, I mean, football is here,” Adams said. “But you know, again, it’s not coming out here trying to kill anybody — it’s all about technique football, working on your eyes, working on angles to the football. But definitely tackling is in play tomorrow, so it’s live.”
