One Big Blue coach gives it old college try

When he sees something he likes, he might tweet about it. If he reads something he appreciates about one of his players, he will retweet it. This is a fairly common practice for assistant coaches in college but not so for NFL assistants. In this regard, Tyke Tolbert is an exception.

“I’m a positive poster,’’ Tolbert, the Giants’ new wide receivers coach, told The Post. “About my family or my players or our team. I don’t respond to anything. It’s just something to do when you have your spare time. Don’t have much spare time now.’’

Yes indeed, training camp is a busy time for assistant coaches. Tolbert, though, found the time to retweet to his 4,011 followers on Twitter (@CoachTykeT3) a story about his relationship with Odell Beckham Jr., post videos of Kalif Raymond and Sterling Shepard catching touchdown passes and retweet news about LeBron James opening his I Promise School, adding as a comment “This is awesome.’’ Tolbert also did not hide his excitement when he posted pictures of his two daughters with Beckham, Shepard and Saquon Barkley.

“It’s something I’ve always done,’’ Tolbert said. “I don’t do anything that’s negative, I don’t do anything that’s harmful. Again, when I post it’s about my family or my players or the team.’’

Head coach Pat Shurmur told The Post he discussed using social media with Tolbert and offered his approval even though Shurmur does not engage in any manner of social media.

“It’s the same for anybody that chooses to be involved with social media,’’ Shurmur said. “You just have to really think of what you’re doing before you hit send. I guess it’s send, right? Send, post, whatever it is.’’
