Don’t Blame the President For Border Separation
Ivanka Trump believes no child should be separated from their parents, even if the parents endangered their lives by transporting them hundreds of miles to illegally jump the border (“Papa don’t preach,” Aug. 3).
Fair enough — but will she go even further?
Perhaps she will also advocate against separating children through other government intervention, such as through child-protective services or even convicted parents being separated from their children by incarceration. John DelGobbo

The truth is that when families are separated at the border, it’s the fault of the parents.
The parents took them to the border, knowing it was wrong and they could be detained.
A good parent would never put their child in that danger. Let’s put the blame where it belongs. John Buonagura
Stewart Manor Rational-thinking people, myself included, sympathize with the plight of illegal immigrants and their children, but if you break the laws of this country, you suffer the consequences — no exceptions.
If they don’t like it, they should go through the process of immigrating legally, as past generations have done, and they will be welcomed with open arms. Brian Donnelly

We have laws that should be upheld, and President Trump is sticking to his pre-election promise. We all have empathy for families that are separated, but coming to America is a process.
So either we have laws to protect our borders, or just put a sign up that says, “Welcome everyone, come right in. We have assistance for one and all.”

Even the president’s own daughter doesn’t get it: Trump is not for the separation of children from their parents; he is against illegal immigrants entering our country.
If the children are separated, it is part of the process. Don’t blame our president; blame the parents.
As far as the other statement Ivanka made on the press not being the enemy: Trump is very outspoken, and he is easy prey for the media. I wouldn’t call the media the enemy, but they sure aren’t his friend.
