W. H’wood wants Trump star struck
It has survived pummeling by a pickax and a sledgehammer, but now the West Hollywood City Council wants to remove President Trump’s star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The council unanimously approved a resolution calling for the star to be dug up from Hollywood Boulevard because of Trump’s behavior towards women, his attacks against minorities and his policy of separating children from their parents at the border.
West Hollywood Mayor John Duran insisted politics did not come into play in the council’s vote late Monday.
“Earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is an honor,” he said in a statement. “When one belittles and attacks minorities, immigrants, Muslims, people with disabilities or women — the honor no longer exists.”
The resolution urges the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the city of Los Angeles, where the star is located, to pull the marker.
But that’s not likely to happen, according to a statement from the chamber.
“Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” said Leron Gubler, the organization’s president and CEO. “Because of this, we have never removed a star from the Walk.”
In 2016, Trump’s star was surrounded by a miniature wall topped with barbed wire and later smashed with a sledgehammer. Last month, a protester took a pickax to it. The star has also been marred by graffiti.
