Taunting NY’s Finest: Cop-Haters’ R-Rated Rants

-

Apparently, Mayor de Blasio and his puppet Police Commissioner James O’Neill prefer a gentler force and are now having its officers “turn the other cheek” (“Vile abuse sadly all in a day’s work,” James P. O’Neill, Aug. 22).

Unfortunately, word (and video) spreads fast among vile police-haters, who will only become even more abusive. Nicholas Maffei Bronxville

The new policy that reportedly instructs police officers to tread lightly has exacerbated the lack of respect goons are showing officers.

I can understand the morale problems in the NYPD, especially due to the mayor’s attitude toward the police. Ralph Miano Naples, Fla.

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing while watching the video of that young punk verbally abuse some of New York’s Finest.

How could the police be told to stand down while being publicly berated?

Why would anyone want to be a cop these days? Telling cops to stand there and take that

abuse just emboldens those punks even more.

I’m glad Mayor de Blasio told them to “knock it off.” It reminds me of when President Barack Obama told Vladimir Putin to “cut it out” on Russian hacking. That tough talk really worked well. (Ha!) Cronin Miller Brooklyn

The name-calling and taunting of police hasn’t been at a level this high since the ’80s. De Blasio has done little to curtail this. He hasn’t a clue what to do except spout off his left-leaning liberalism.

I am a native New Yorker. He and his administration have taken and trashed what Mayor Mike Bloomberg did in his tenure. Alfred Bonnabel Manhattan

According to O’Neill, the videos of people berating police officers “might come as a shock.”

Unfortunately, O’Neill is wrong: The public will not be shocked by this behavior. It has been going on for some time.

While I appreciated O’Neill speaking of his “pride in our police officers,” this taunting has been going on for most of O’Neill’s term, and up to now, he has been silent for the most part. Our police officers deserved better. Bob Moffit Staten Island

I see New York’s Finest may be under orders to handle bad actors with kid gloves in some cases. That stinks.

My grandfather was a cop, and I’m a lifelong supporter. I’m disgusted. Keith Andersen Staten Island
