Bruce could rejoin Mets this weekend

MEYER SUSPENDED THREE GAMES FOR MISHANDLING DOMESTIC-ABUSE CASE

There could be a Jay Bruce sighting as early as Friday at Citi Field.

The Mets had received positive reports regarding Bruce, who is rehabbing with Class-A St. Lucie.

And that was before Bruce went 2-of-3 with a homer, single and walk to go along with two RBIs on Wednesday when he also played nine innings at first base. Bruce has hit .360 (9-of-25) in seven minor league rehab games.

So the report about Bruce before Wednesday?

“It was really good,” manager Mickey Callaway said before the Mets’ 5-3 win over the Giants at Citi Field. “I talked to him this morning, he feels like his timing is getting there. His feet feel great, his back feels great so he’s in a really good spot physically. He is going to play first base [Wednesday] and if that goes well he’ll fly in and meet us [Thursday] and be activated on Friday.”

David Wright was 0-of-3 Wednesday when he played seven innings at third base, also for St. Lucie.

Righty Paul Sewald entered the night without a Major League win, without a save.

“People give me a little bit of trouble, zero in the win column, zero in the save column. Feel like I’ve been here a lot longer than to have zeroes there,” Sewald said. Kill the nil in saves. After lefty

Daniel Zamora got the first out of the ninth, Sewald got the last two for his first save.

The Mets released next season’s schedule, hoping the whole thing goes a little better than this year. They will open against the division rival Nationals on Thursday, March 28 in Washington. Mittens and scarves advised as the Mets start a six-game trip that also has three games in Miami (where you can ditch the cold weather gear). Washington also will provide the opposition when the Mets open their home schedule Thursday, April 4, one week after the opener.

The Mets, in addition to their Subway Series games against the Yankees, will face American League Central teams in interleague play at Citi Field.

The Mets play the Yankees two games at Citi Field (Tuesday, July 2 and Wednesday, July 3). Inexplicably, the Mets are off July 4. They journey to The Bronx for two games, Monday, June 10 and Tuesday, June 11.
