OBJ deal puts some pep in Shep’s step

It’s hard to imagine anyone in the world being happier than Odell Beckham Jr. when he officially became the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL by signing a five-year, $95 million contract extension ($65 million guaranteed) with the Giants.

But we don’t have to imagine. Sterling Shepard provided evidence there may have been someone even happier.

Following Monday’ s announcement of the agreement, Shepard posted a video to his Instagram story, in which the third-year receiver looked even more ecstatic than his superstar teammate. As The O’Jays’ “For the Love of Money” played from the speakers inside the Giants locker room, Shepard danced with Beckham, smiling and laughing throughout the clip as if he was getting a cut of Beckham’s new deal.

Business was finished. The fun could resume.

“I don’t think a lot of people know how stressful it can be, trying to focus on stuff that you have to focus on off the field during contract time and also be focused on the team,” Shepard told The Post. “It puts a lot of weight on guys’ shoulders. To finally see that weight lifted off of my boy, that’s what we all play this game for, to take care of our families. Not only do we love it, that’s what we’ve been playing the game since we were little for. To finally reach that goal that he set for himself since he was a little kid, I can’t be happier for him.

“He did a good job of putting on that face that it’s not affecting him, but everybody knows it’s a tough situation. He did a great job of being really invested in the team while going through that.”

Shepard was confident Beckham’s play wouldn’t have been impacted if contract negotiations had stretched into the regular season, but Sheppard felt even better about Beckham’s return from a season-ending ankle injury after the ink on the contract dried.

“It def i ni tely helps the team,” Shepard said. “You want guys to come out, and play fearless.”

Shepard, a 2016 secondround draft pick, still has two more years left on his rookie deal. But when Beckham signed his mega-deal, Shepard, who became a firsttime father this month, naturally thought about putting himself in position to receive a life-changing contract in the future.

“Everybody who plays this game would love to be in that position,” Shepard said. “Everybody wants to play at the highest level, and if you play at the highest level, you get paid at the highest level. It comes with it. You try not to think about it too much, and let it come to you.”
