- By ROBERT RORKE AND LAUREN SARNER

THERE are an unusual number of familiar faces joining the casts of returning fall shows this TV season.

People you haven’t seen as regulars on the small screen for a while — including former “Cagney & Lacey” co-star Tyne Daly — have snared key roles on big primetime shows.

Here’s a look at who they’ll be playing in their new TV jobs. Lisa Edelstein (“The Good Doctor,” ABC, Sept. 24) Where you know her from: “House,” “Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce,” “The West Wing.”

Her new role: Edelstein returns to the medical niche she carved out in “House” as Dr. Blaize, an oncologist who returns to the hospital after a brief suspension. She’ll verbally spar with Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff ). Timothy Hutton (“How To Get Away with Murder,” ABC, Sept. 27) Where you know him from: “American Crime” and “Leverage” on TV and, of course, his Oscar-winning performance in 1980 film “Ordinary People.” His new role: Who knows? His character and storyline are being kept under wraps — typical for a Shonda Rhimes show. Nestor Carbonell (“Midnight Texas,” NBC, Oct. 26) Where you know him from: “Bates Motel,” “State of Affairs,” “Lost” on TV and in the bigscreen movie “The Dark Knight.” His new role: Will play Kai Lucero, a new arrival in the supernatural drama whose mysterious presence causes a stir.

Dan Lauria (“Shameless,” Showtime, Sept. 9) Where you know him from: “The Wonder Years,” “The Good Wife,” “Sullivan & Son,” “Lombardi” (HBO movie).

His new role: He’ll play Mo White, a dis- graced ex-congressman who’s running for office again with help from Frank (William H. Macy).

Chris Carmack (“Grey’s Anatomy,” ABC, Sept. 27) Where you know him from: He played Will Lexington on ABC’s “Nashville.”

His new role: It’s being kept under wraps, but ABC did say Carmack will play an orthopedic surgeon nicknamed “Ortho God.”

Boris Kodjoe (“Station 19,” ABC, Oct. 4)

Where you know him from: Made a splash on the 2000 Showtime series adaptation of the film “Soul Food.” He most recently played Dr. Will Campbell on the CBS medical drama “Code Black.”

His new role: He’ll play a seasoned firefighter with a mysterious past. That’s about all we know, for now. Tyne Daly (“Murphy Brown,”

CBS, Sept. 27) Where you know her from: “Cagney & Lacey, “Judging Amy” — she’s a seven-time Emmy winner. Her new role: She’ll play Phyllis, Murphy’s assistant, on the revival of Candice Bergen’s sitcom.
