Tweet and sour

Disgraced OSU coach unleashes online rant

- By HOWIE KUSSOY

Zach Smith could no longer stay silent.

The disgraced former Ohio State assistant coach took to social media Wednesday and went off on a series of tirades in which he blamed the media, the university and his ex-wife, Courtney, for the circumstances that led to his dismissal following reports he allegedly committed domestic abuse against her.

Smith opened by criticizing journalists Brett McMurphy and Paul Finebaum, along with ESPN, for their coverage, while claiming that Ohio State “botched the investigation” that led to the suspensions of coach Urban Meyer and athletic director Gene Smith.

Smith linked to a lengthy Facebook post defending him — written by his mother, Lynn Bruce — and then posted a picture of his two smiling children, saying the media and “their mother had plenty of disregard 4 them in this.”

The former assistant angrily responded to multiple tweets written back to him, then listed a set of “FACTS” he wanted the public to know:

“1. My kids are suffering because of all of this (most important) “2. I never beat my wife “3. OSU botched the investigation and worse off the ‘punishment’

“4. They forced [Meyer] into his statement, I hope at least… because he knows what’s real and would have never apologized.

“5. [Ohio State] President [Michael] Drake is either the cause of the joke of an ‘investigation’ or ‘punishment’ or he allowed it.”

Having kept a low profile since becoming a nationally reviled figure, Smith also said “the truth will come out” and that his exwife “is NO victim.”

“It is very hard to be silent when falsehoods & half-truths are said about you and there is no way to defend yourself,” Smith wrote. “I’ve made mistakes in my life but being a domestic abuser is not one of them! I’ll answer every question in court and under oath when the time comes & cant WAIT!”
