This union’s Made in America
CONTROVERSIAL rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine and Meek Mill are aiming to team up for a collaboration that was sparked at Jay-Z’s hot Made in America festival over Labor Day weekend. A source said that behind the scenes, Tekashi “went to Meek Mill’s dressing room, where both rappers met for the first time and expressed mutual respect for one another’s craft in the rap game.” We hear that after the chat, Tekashi “left and told friends that he wants to work with Meek and make ‘a crazy, energetic song together.’ ” Tekashi recently had a smash, “Fefe,” with Meek’s ex Nicki Minaj, who also performed at the fest. A spy said, “Beyoncé took a particular interest in meeting Canadian-born singer Jessie Reyez” in a D’Ussé VIP section. “Bey was spotted complimenting Reyez’s beautiful voice and congratulating her for her strong performance on Saturday.” Up-and-coming Reyez has guest vocal spots on Eminem’s new album. “Jay and Bey also made their way backstage on two occasions throughout the weekend to watch Janelle Monáe and Nicki Minaj tear up the stage.” Performers also included Post Malone, Ty Dolla $ign, Miguel and Pusha T, while VIPs included 76ers part owner Michael Rubin. Potential collaborators Meek and Tekashi are both mired in legal issues, albeit very different ones. Meek’s been locked in a controversial case in Philadelphia stemming from a probation violation over a decade-old gun and drug charge that was tossed. His legal team accused a local judge of having a vendetta against him, and they’re appealing to a state Superior Court. Rainbow-haired Brooklyn rapper Tekashi, meanwhile, is facing an assault charge in Houston, plus up to three years behind bars in New York City for allegedly violating a plea deal after posting video online of a pal and a 13-year-old girl in a sex act. A Manhattan judge rules in that case Oct. 2.
