$6.2M mansion sale a Bed-Stuy record

- By JENNIFER GOULD KEIL

A landmarked, 10-bedroom Brooklyn mansion has set the record for most expensive property ever sold in Bedford-Stuyvesant — going for $6.275 million.

The John C. Kelly estate, a former SRO at 247 Hancock St., went for more than a quarter-million dollars over the asking price, sources said.

The 7,533-square-foot property spelled a huge profit for its owner, Claudia Moran, a retired 76year-old marketing executive and immigrant from Jamaica, who first bought it in 1986 for $140,000, said Yuriy Moshes, Moran’s lawyer.

The sale price crushed the old record forBedStuy, set last year when a renovated corner brownstone at 1 Verona Place went for $3.3 million.

Moran first listed the 41foot-wide mansion in 2014 for $6 million.

“It’s all about the broker, client relationship and trust,” said Moran’s broker, Ban Leow, of Halstead. “I believed that it was worth at least $6 million. We had lower offers, but we didn’t take them.”

Built in 1887, the palazzostyle manse was landmarked in 2015 — after being reduced to becoming an illegal SRO before Moran bought it in the 1980s.

It is now part of the Bedford Historic District. Over the years, it has had various distinctions, from hosting President Grover Cleveland to being the scene of a Sharon Stone film shoot.

The home boasts a French walnut entrance hall and Corinthian columns. There’s an arch, two bay windows, a dramatic stairway and billiard room with a “smoking balcony.”

The outdoor space features a rose garden and a Koi pond.

Moran plans to take some time to “travel the world,” Moshes said.
