THE POST’S TOP TEN
1. Alabama (2-0) (Last week: 1)
The Crimson Tide may have a kicking problem. Temple grad transfer Austin Jones has already missed a 27-yard field goal and three extra points, two in Saturday’s 57-7 shellacking of Arkansas State. Hey, Nick Saban needs something to complain about.
2. Georgia (2-0) (3)
The rebuilt defense passed its first test, producing two turnovers and limiting South Carolina to 54 rushing yards in a 41-17 road victory.
3. Clemson (2-0) (2)
Either Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond is very good or the Clemson secondary, torched for 430 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-26 victory, has major issues.
4. Auburn (2-0) (4)
The Tigers’ opener was so difficult, taking on Washington at a neutral site, we’ll give them a pass for scheduling FCS foe Alabama State on Saturday.
5. Wisconsin (2-0) (5)
Two easy home wins over two overwhelmed opponents haven’t revealed much about the Badgers. Those victories won’t help them much come December, either. 6. Ohio State (2-0) (6) Take the best players from Oregon State and Rutgers — Ohio State’s first two victims — and that team couldn’t even test the Buckeyes. Next week, against Big 12 contender TCU in Texas, should be a different story.
7. Oklahoma (2-0) (7)
A right knee injury to starting running back Rodney Anderson put a damper on another blowout, this time over outclassed UCLA. The result was quarterback Kyler Murray leading the Sooners in rushing, which isn’t a recipe for success moving forward.
8. Notre Dame (2-0) (8)
The win-loss record is what matters, but for Notre Dame to be a factor in the playoff chase, quarterback Brandon Wimbush has to be much better. Four interceptions and 52 rushing yards on 30 carries aren’t going to get it done against better competition.
9. Stanford (2-0) (9)
If the defense can play at this level — it has allowed just 13 points in wins over San Diego State and USC — Stanford is the team to beat in the Pac-12.
10. Washington (1-1) (10)
The Huskies took out their frustrations from the Week 1 loss to Auburn with a 45-3 beatdown of North Dakota, a much-needed response as the Pac-12 season begins next weekend in Utah.
