Twinbill on tap after more rain

- By DAN MARTIN

The Mets and Marlins will play a single-admission doubleheader at Citi Field starting Thursday at 3:10 p.m., with the second game scheduled to begin 20 minutes after the conclusion of the opener.

The teams were forced into the unfortunate twinbill by the wet weather that caused a 5-hour, 35minute rain delay before just one game of Wednesday’s scheduled doubleheader was played.

The Mets announced that fans holding tickets for Wednesday’s game can exchange them for a scheduled home game against Atlanta from Sept. 25-27 or any regularly scheduled home Monday-Thursday game next April other than Opening Day.

Tickets for Tuesday’s game, which had also been postponed, can also be exchanged for any remaining regularseason game or those Monday-Thursday April games next season — other than Opening Day. Jeff McNeil had another multi-hit night in Wednes- day’s 13-0 win over the Marlins and he credits Jay Bruce with at least some of his success.

“I talk to him a lot about hitting and approach,’’ McNeil said. “He’s a good guy to learn from.”

It seems to be working, as McNeil hasn’t slowed down at the plate. He tripled and singled twice in Wednesday’s win — and continues to impress Bruce.

“He’s great at getting the barrel to the ball and that’s gonna be big for him,” Bruce said. “It’s tougher than ever to make contact with guys throwing 100 mph. Just watching him, he has an exceptional ability to make solid contact.”

Not only does Mickey Callaway think Jacob deGrom should win the NL Cy Young Award, the manager also thinks the righthander should be in the conversation for NL MVP.

“It’s been done before,’’ Callaway said of pitchers being named league MVP. “If they’re the best performer in that league, they should win it.”
