Behind Demi’s OD

-

DEMI Lovato’s mother, Dianna De La Garza, has spoken out publicly about her daughter’s overdose months after the singer was rushed to an LA hospital. “It’s still a really difficult thing to talk about,” De La Garza, 56, told Newsmax. “I literally start to shake a little bit when I start to remember what happened that day.” She revealed that TMZ learned of Lovato’s overdose before she did. De La Garza heard the news from a flood of text messages from friends and family members sending prayers and asking if Lovato was OK. As she was about to go online to see the report, Lovato’s assistant, Kelsey

Kershner, called sobbing to say that Lovato had overdosed. Kershner, who reportedly found an unresponsive Lovato and called paramedics, told De La Garza, “She’s conscious but she’s not talking.” De La Garza immediately rushed to the hospital with Demi’s sisters Dallas and Madison, and said Dallas had to drive because “I was in shock,” De La Garza said. “I didn’t know what to say. It was just something that I never, ever expected to hear, as a parent, about any of my kids.” She added, “We got there as quickly as we could . . . and ran into the emergency room to be by her side. She just didn’t look good at all. She was in bad shape.” De La Garza “said to her, ‘ Demi, I’m here. I love you . . . And at that point she said back to me, ‘I love you, too.’ From that point on, I never allowed myself to ever think that things weren’t going to be OK.” Lovato moved to rehab weeks later. Today, “I can honestly say she’s doing really well . . . She’s happy. She’s healthy. She’s working on her sobriety, and she’s getting the help she needs. That in itself encourages me about her future and about the future of our family.”
