CUOMO A ‘MINI’ MEANIE
Dwarfs rip campaign diss
The nation’s largest support group for dwarfs has a big problem with Gov. Cuomo’s re-election campaign bashing his Republican challenger as President Trump’s “Mini-Me.”
The use of the term against Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro makes short-statured people feel small, said Mark Povinelli, the president of Little People of America and a veteran TV actor.
“We would hope a campaign such as Gov. Cuomo’s could find a way to publicly discuss the issues at hand without making reference to one’s physical stature,” Povinelli told The Post.
“It implies that someone’s height should be a factor in their ability to govern,” he said.
“We strongly believe that someone’s physical characteristics should not be equated to the political acumen of a candidate.”
The Cuomo campaign has for months pummeled Molinaro in ads and press statements as a “Trump Mini-Me” to link him to the president’s policies.
But Molinaro — who happens to be 5-foot-8 — has distanced himself from the president, saying he didn’t even vote for Trump and instead wrote in Republican former Rep. Chris Gibson of upstate New York.
Mini-Me was the name of the diminutive Dr. Evil doppelganger played by the late actor Verne Troyer in the second and third “Austin Powers” movies.
Molinaro said the namecalling was “beneath” Cuomo — who is 5-foot-11.
“The fact that he employs government employees to talk that way? They should be ashamed, and they shouldn’t be on the payroll,” Molinaro said this week.
Cuomo spokeswoman Lis Smith hit back on Friday.
“What’s truly offensive is how Marc Molinaro . . . wants to bring Donald Trump’s policies to New York state,” she said.
