#MeToo heat on NBC exec
NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack went soft on sexual-misconduct allegations — both at 30 Rock and his previous, high-profile gig, according to a publish report on Friday night.
Lack, in hot water for his handling of “Today” host Matt Lauer, also protected another a male employee who sexually harassed multiple women when the NBC news chief was chairman and CEO of Sony BMG Music Entertainment, sources told The Daily Beast.
When Sony discovered that music executive Charlie Walk had sent “sexual” messages via company e-mail to female employees, including “graphic” pornography, officials pleaded with Lack to act, The Daily Beast reported. But he didn’t. “I kept telling him: ‘You must do something about this. It’s imperative,’” an unnamed exec told The Daily Beast. “Andy would turn a blind eye to making difficult decisions.”
Lauer was fired by NBC last year over multiple complaints of inappropriate sexual behavior.
Lawyer Ari Wilkenfeld, who represents the NBC employee who first accused Lauer, said Lack outed his client despite a promise to keep her ID quiet.
“NBCUniversal and Mr. Lack’s actions, which I believe were deliberate, have done nothing short of destroying my client’s life,” said Wilkenfeld.
Reps for both NBC News and Sony Music declined comment.
