Apple Watch Series 3 a bargain at $279

-

The Apple Watch Series 3 has quietly become one of the best deals in tech.

Lost in the commotion surrounding Friday’s launch of the iPhone XS and Watch Series 4, the newly discounted $279 Series 3 is a stellar wearable at a fair price from a company that has a reputation for squeezing every penny possible out of its customers.

With an all-day battery life, high-tech fitness tracking capabilities and attractive design, the Series 3 still doesn’t feel anywhere close to being outdated.

And though the new Series 4 represents the largest upgrade for the Watch line since it was introduced in 2015 — its display is 30 percent bigger and its body is a smidge slimmer — it’s also the most expensive model yet.

Along with the Series 4’s bigger screens come bigger price tags. The latest smart- watch starts at $399, and climbs up to $529 if you add a cellular connection.

The Series 3, meanwhile, can do virtually all the same things, save for the Series 4’s new electrocardiogram-taking abilities.

Upgrading the Series 3 to WatchOS 5 will see it gain a slew of new features that its processor is still more than capable of handling without a hitch.

And the best part? You can walk into any Apple Store and buy a Series 3, while the 4 is sold out until late October.

Hardcore Apple devotees will love the Series 4 and consider their money well-spent — but for the casual consumer who has been itching to dip a toe into the world of wearables, the $279 Series 3 is the perfect buy.

Apple shares slipped 1.1 percent on Friday, to $217.66.

?? ?? TIMELY DEAL: Sure, the Apple Watch Series 4 intro (with COO Jeff Williams, left) earlier this month was exciting, but the bigger news might be the great value of the Series 3 — priced at $279.
