Anderson develops fumble-itis

During the past two Jets games, Robby Anderson has only been noticeable for the wrong reason. The wide receiver has fumbled in each of the past two games and has not been a big part of the Jets’ offense. After a 41-yard touchdown reception in Week 1 against the Lions, he has been largely invisible except when he is fumbling the football. He has six catches for 90 yards and the touchdown on 10 targets through three games. Coach Todd Bowles credited the opposing defenses with taking away Anderson, who had 941 yards receiving last year. “They’re doing some things different this year with Robby in try-

DE Leonard Williams played 84 percent of the defensive snaps in Thursday’s 21-17 loss and did not record a stat — not a tackle, sack, quarterback hit, nothing. Bowles defended him, though.

“I thought Leonard played well,” Bowles said. “I thought they tried to double him a lot and he got to the quarterback when the ball was out. He took the pressure off the other guys. They sent two or three guys at him almost every other play. But Leonard caused a lot of other people to make plays and that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet. I’m happy with what he did.”

Bowles said he did not think the Jets suffered any serious injuries in the game. CB Buster Skrine (knee) and WR Charone Peake (hamstring) left the game early.

The Jets signed WR ArDarius Stewart to their practice squad after cutting him Wednesday. They cut WR Deontay Burnett to clear the spot.
