‘Clock’ $trikes at the box office

-

The gothic family fantasy “The House With a Clock in Its Walls” topped the weekend box office, exceeding expectations to debut with an estimated $26.9 million in ticket sales.

Meanwhile, Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 11/9” opened with $3.1 million — a huge debut for most documentaries but a fraction of the $23.9 million opening of his 2004 film, “Fahrenheit 9/11.”

Two other new releases — “Life Itself ” and “Assassination Nation” — bombed at North American theaters.

“Life Itself,” a sentimental tale from “This is Us” creator Dan Fogelman, took in just $2.1 million, despite a cast including Olivia Wilde, Oscar Isaac and Antonio Banderas, while the home-invasion thriller “Assassination Nation” grossed just $1 million.

Rounding out the top three were Paul Feig’s noir thriller, “A Simple Favor,” at $10.4 million, and the horror film “The Nun” at $10.3 million.

This is the hazy view from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Rover-1A as it successfully touched down over the weekend on a very fast-moving target, the 1,000-yard-wide nearEarth asteroid Ryugu. A second probe, Rover-1B, snapped the photo below. Both asteroid landings — the probes will study the rock for the next few months — are spaceexploration firsts.
