Five questions

- —MikePuma

With David Wright making his final start with the Mets on Saturday, here are five questions for the game: Will he play before Saturday? What would be the logic behind it?

Though Wright is only scheduled to start Saturday night’s game against the Marlins, manager Mickey Callaway has indicated he would like to get him at least one pinch-hitting appearance beforehand. Such a dress rehearsal would allow Wright to maybe shake any jitters about facing big-league pitching again before his big day. Wright initially expressed concern about playing in a game that might affect the NL East race, but the Braves clinched on Saturday, leaving this last week meaningless for all teams involved.

What are the odds Jose Reyes plays shortstop on Saturday?

Reyes too is almost certainly playing his final week with the Mets, and it would be surprising if he and Wright aren’t reunited on the left side of the infield for the first time since 2011. The two formed a partnership for eight seasons, before Reyes left to accept a free-agent contract from the Marlins. Wright last played for the Mets on May 27, 2016, about a month before Reyes returned to the organization. They were in the same lineup for a Grapefruit League game in 2017, in which Wright served as the DH.

What has Wright done to prepare?

Wright played 10 games at Single-A St. Lucie and another two at Triple-A Las Vegas before ending his minor league rehab assignment and continuing his workouts with the Mets. He accompanied the club on its 10-game road trip and took batting practice and participated in infield drills on a regular basis.

How much is this costing the Mets?

By activating Wright from the disabled list, the Mets will be responsible for $641,711, the remainder of his salary for this season. To this point, insurance has covered 75 percent of the $20 million Wright is earning for 2018. After this season Wright has another $27 million remaining on his contract, but the Mets plan to negotiate a settlement with the insurer, allowing the club to release the third baseman.

Are tickets available?

Unofficially, Saturday’s game is sold out, but tickets are available on the secondary market. The website VividSeats.com on Monday was listing a standing-room-only ticket for $79. In comparison, a promenade ticket for Friday night can be bought for $7.
