Couric sees less ‘perk’ with Trump

- By ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD asteigrad@nypost.com

Katie Couric’s sunny disposition has started to dim in the Donald Trump era.

The veteran TV journalist, best known as the perky co-host of NBC’s “Today,” called the state of the country “incredibly depressing and disheartening.”

“I’ve never seen a president who seems to have as his guiding principle of leadership sowing the seeds of discourse and divisiveness. I find it really troubling and upsetting,” she offered.

Couric, who spoke at Advertising Week in New York on Wednesday, cited the wage gap, the changing demographics of the country and the #MeToo movement, as some of the issues polarizing the country.

“Behaviors that received an eye roll or were tolerated and given a ‘boys will be boys’ attitude can’t exist anymore,” she said, before turning to the subject of her latest venture, Katie Couric Media.

Ever resourceful, Couric’s firm creates content for big advertisers that touches on larger issues, such as pay parity and gender equality.

Couric did not elaborate on the kinds of projects she’s developing, but noted that she would like to continue telling stories that “can influence your life.”

“There are a lot of great Americans who aren’t celebrated,” she said with a grin. “That’s when I’m really moved and inspired and able to revert to my optimistic nature.”
