’Cuse falls short against Panthers

Darrin Hall ran for 107 yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in overtime, and Pittsburgh rallied past visiting Syracuse, 44-37, on Saturday.

Hall’s 3-yard burst on the opening possession of the extra period put the Panthers up, and Pitt sophomore defensive back Therran Coleman picked off Syracuse’s Eric Dungey in the end zone on the Orange’s first offensive snap to give the Panthers a stirring victory to end a two-game losing streak.

Qadree Ollison ran for 192 yards and a score for the Panthers (3-3, 2-1 ACC), who weathered a 75-minute lightning delay and a late surge by the Orange to beat Syracuse (4-2, 1-2) for the eighth straight time at Heinz Field.

The Orange trailed by 10 in the third quarter but pushed in front 37-34 with 5:53 left in regulation only to let it slip away while losing late for the second consecutiv­e week.

Illinois 38, Rutgers 17

In Piscataway, N.J., quarterbac­k AJ Bush ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns and threw for another in his return to the lineup as Illinois (3-2, 1-1 Big Ten) used a big ground game to beat Rutgers (1-5, 0-3), sending the Scarlet Knights to their fifth straight loss.

Jonathan Hilliman scored on a 32-yard run and freshman Art Sitkowski added a 7-yard TD pass to tight end Travis Vokolek to get Rut- gers within 24-14 at the half.

Columbia 34, Marist 24

In Manhattan, Josh Bean threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns and Columbia (3-1) defeated Marist (1-4).

Jacob Hallenbeck threw an 84-yard touchdown to Juston Christian early in the third to give Marist its last lead of the game at 21-17.

Columbia responded with TDs on its next two drives with a 1-yard run by Ty Lenhart and Bean’s 24-yard scoring pass to Casey Mariucci.

Towson 52, Stony Brook 28

In Towson, Md., Shane Simpson returned the opening kick 96 yards for a touchdown and Tom Flacco threw four touchdown passes as Towson (4-1, 2-0 CAA) beat Stony Brook (4-2, 2-1), which got two long TD passes from Joe Carbone.

Georgetown 23, Fordham 11

In The Bronx, Herman Moultrie III scored the goahead touchdown in the final minute of the third and added a second as Georgetown (2-4, 0-1 Patriot League) beat Fordham (0-5, 0-1), which got a touchdown run from Tyriek Hopkins.

Campbell 49, Wagner 3

In Buies Creek, N.C., Daniel Smith ran for three touchdowns and threw for a fourth as Campbell (5-1) dismantled Wagner (1-5), which got its lone score on Eric Silvester’s 37-yard field goal.
