Weeknd job — as movie star

-

IT looks like The Weeknd is taking a page out of “A Star Is Born” breakout Lady Gaga’s playbook and making his big-screen debut.

Sources told Page Six that the pop star, a k a Abel Tesfaye, was spotted on Monday on the set of the upcoming Adam Sandler film “Uncut Gems,” which also co-stars Idina Menzel and Lakeith Stanfield.

We hear that The Weeknd was filming with Sandler and rapper Trinidad James at Meatpacking hot spot 1Oak. A source told Page Six: “They’re filming there and took over for several days. They’re shooting a club scene.”

The spy said that The Weeknd performed during filming, but that it was Sandler who suggested the 1Oak location.

It’s unclear how big the singer’s role is in the film, which is being directed by indie darlings Josh and Benny Safdie.

The movie — being produced by Scott Rudin and Eli Bush and executive produced by Martin Scorsese — centers on Sandler as the owner of a jewelry store in New York’s Diamond District who has a gambling addiction and needs to find a way to pay off his debts.

The Weeknd was nominated for an Oscar in 2016 for his original tune on the “Fifty Shades of Grey” soundtrack. He’s so far only starred on-screen in his own music videos.

Filming began about two weeks ago.

The movie will be distributed by hot New York-based indie studio A24, which is behind the upcoming “Mid90s,” by Jonah Hill, and recent fave “Eighth Grade,” by Bo Burnham. The company has been consistently putting out hip awards-circuit fare as of late, such as “Lady Bird,” “The Florida Project” and “The Disaster Artist,” all released last year.

Hill was originally attached to star in “Uncut Gems” when the film was announced at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017, but he was replaced by Sandler this year. The film also stars Judd Hirsch and “Billions” regular Eric Bogosian.
