It’s amazing how everyone is in such an uproar about the killing of a Saudi citizen who worked for The Washington Post (“Another ‘whack’ job?” Oct. 19).

He was not an American citizen, and it was not done on our soil. Being a citizen of Saudi Arabia, and only a resident of the United States, he should have realized that free speech is not recognized everywhere.

It does reveal the savagery of these countries that have absolutely no respect for human life. And it shows how lucky we are to live in the United States, where we’re able to criticize our own government. Matthew Galcik Montauk

It is extremely unlikely that this hit occurred without the awareness (and likely at the direction) of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, an ally of President Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

We must not allow our country’s affection for a ruthless and brutal re- gime to get in the way of proper reprisal for this outrageous act.

If the president attempts to whitewash what the Saudis have done, he may find himself fighting a Congress that has found the spine to do what is right rather than kowtow. The uproar over Jamal Khashoggi’s disappeara­nce will be in vain.

In Brooklyn, we always called this a hit, plain and simple. The only difference is the mob tried to be a little more discreet when it whacked someone. Frank Asprea Brooklyn Mohammed bin Salman apparently sent a 15-man hit squad into his own embassy to murder and dismember one man.

We could not miss the symbolism of the Saudis cutting off Khashoggi’s typing fingers. I wonder if Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will ever again warmly shake hands with King Salman and the crown prince, or go into another closed-door meeting with them? Richard Siegelman Plainview
