Tomlinson to be fed more snaps after Snacks swap

- By GREG JOYCE

Damon “Snacks” Harrison is off to Detroit, but not before brushing off on his fellow defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson.

“Snacks is a great guy. I obviously learned a lot from him, on and off the field,” Tomlinson said Wednesday, hours after Harrison was traded to the Lions. “He’s just a great role model. It’s going to be slightly different not playing next to him, but it’s the nature of the game and I have to get used to it.”

The 6-foot-3, 318-pound Tomlinson will likely take on more duties on the defensive line starting Sunday against the Redskins. He had already played more snaps than Harrison this season, but will now be a more important run stuffer in the trenches.

“He’s probably a natural nose guard, so this would put him back in that position full time,” coach Pat Shurmur said. “We’re looking forward to seeing him do good things.”

When the Giants take the field Sunday, Tomlinson will suddenly own the team’s longest streak of games started — a tag that previously belonged to Harrison, and Eli Manning before he was benched last season.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said he doesn’t believe the Giants’ recent trades will change Washington’s approach, though.

“One thing about the Giants is they’ve done a really good job of getting everybody involved in their defense, a lot of guys have played,” Gruden said on a conference call Wednes- day. “I know that Harrison is a really good player, really clogged up the run, but I’m sure they have a reason for doing what they did. They have some other players in there that have played pretty good.”

The Giants only held a jog-through workout Wednesday, coming off playing Monday night in Atlanta, but LB Alec Ogletree was listed as a non-participant with a hamstring injury.

Ogletree is one of two Giants, joining Landon Collins, to have played every defensive snap through seven games. Ogletree and Shurmur said they would have to see how the linebacker does during the week.

WR Jawill Davis (concussion) did not participate either, and RG Patrick Omameh (knee) and WR Russell Shepard (neck) were limited.
