Prez doubles down on media blame

President Trump tweeted Monday that the media is to blame for a recent spate of political violence — as his spokeswoman fended off a barrage of questions about whether the president is the one sowing discord.

“There is great anger in our Country caused in part by inaccurate, and even fraudulent, reporting of the news. The Fake News Media, the true Enemy of the People, must stop the open & obvious hostility & report the news accurately & fairly,” he tweeted just two days after 11 people were gunned down by a man yelling, “All Jews must die” inside a Pittsburgh synagogue.

During a press briefing Monday, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders denied that Trump’s tough talk on immigrants led to Saturday’s synagogue shoot- ing and the mail bombs sent to Democrats last week.

“The only person responsible for carrying out either of these heinous acts are the individuals who carried them out,” Sanders said.

Synagogue shooter Robert Bowers was reportedly provoked by reports of an immigrant caravan heading toward the US.

“The very first thing that the president did was condemn the attacks . . . The very first thing the media did was blame the president and make him responsible,” Sanders continued.

She insisted that Trump has softened his tone since last week’s violence, but added that he wouldn’t hold back, “particularly as we go into the final days of an election.”
