IT’S MOLINARO TO THE RESCUE
Marc Molinaro says he’ll be a hands-on governor if he’s elected to the statehouse — and he proved it on Monday.
The Republican gubernatorial candidate sprang into action when he noticed a man sprawled on the sidewalk, suffering from a possible stroke, near the candidate’s campaign office in Poughkeepsie.
The individual was semiconscious and gagging on his own vomit when Molinaro found him at around 12:48 p.m. and called 911, according to Poughkeepsie Fire Chief Mark Johnson.
“It seemed to be a medical issue,” the chief said, noting that Molinaro knelt down to help the man as a passer-by stopped to help. “They both gave him assistance.”
At one point, the man woke up, vomited and passed out again. But Molinaro and the good Samaritan were there to aid him while they waited for paramedics.
“I’m just glad I was there to help,” Molinaro said.
The Dutchess County executive has 15 years’ experience volunteering at his local fire department in Tivoli, and knew exactly what to do.
“He assisted with the victim until my people arrived,” Johnson said.
Molinaro then proceeded to direct traffic on Main Street as paramedics treated the man.
“It’s a busy area of town at that time of day,” Johnson said. “We had four overdoses and an alligator loose. There was a report of a 3-foot long alligator at the dock at the end of Main Street and the Hudson River.”
The man Molinaro helped was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. He wasn’t carrying ID and could not immediately be identified.
“The EMTs were treating him for symptoms of a stroke,” Johnson said.
Molinaro’s good deed was lauded by his peers.
“This tells you all you need to know about @marcmolinaro’s heart and his priorities,” tweeted state Sen. Fred Akshar (R-Binghamton). “A true public servant through and through. #BelieveAgain.”
Molinaro was wearing his jacket pin of the cartoon character Underdog, which he has donned several times in the past.
