GIANTS NOTES

-

Barwin, a 10-year veteran, was with the Eagles in 2015 at the end of Chip Kelly’s three-year run in Philadelphia. That was ugly — Kelly was fired before the final regularseason game. This is the first year of the Pat Shurmur regime and, unlike last season, when Ben McAdoo was fired with four games left to play, there will not be a coaching change with the Giants.

“Whenever you have a coach in his first year, you hear people say everybody’s got a clean slate, everyone wants to put their best foot forward and that’s the benefit of having a coach in his first year,’’ said Barwin, who has one sack this season. “I think Shurmur is doing a great job leading, sticking to the message that is just keep fighting, just keep playing for each other, keep playing hard and we’re going to get this fixed and we’re going to find a way to kind of get over the top and start getting wins.

“There’s an opportunity in everything and this is really bad, but adversity can bring teams together and you could see people’s true colors.’’

Starting right tackle Chad

Wheeler was walking around the locker room wearing a bulky boot on his right foot. He was limited to 36 of the 70 offensive snaps in the 20-13 loss to the Redskins because of a sprained right ankle. “Got rolled up on,’’ Wheeler said. With two weeks to heal before the next game, Wheeler believes he will be fine to play Nov. 12 vs. the 49ers. It is a low ankle sprain. “I’m glad to say that,’’ Wheeler said.

Shurmur will hold practice Tuesday and Wednesday and players will have off the remainder of the week.
