‘Golden Girls’ now (cereal) Pez friends

- — Robert Rorke

“Golden Girls”- themed breakfast cereal introduced at Target stores in September sold out fast — and now resale prices for boxes of the fruity Os are popping up on eBay with starting prices of $100.

The cereal’s cute cartoon packaging and weird, blue color aren’t the only draw. Each box also contains a collectible, vinyl figurine depicting

one of the show’s iconic principal characters: Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur), Rose Nylund (Betty White), Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan) or Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty).

The “Golden Girls” goodness comes from Funko Inc., a memorabilia company based in Washington state. The company is taking preor-

ders for a new line of “Golden Girls” Pez dispensers of all the main characters (that’s Dorothy, far left).

And maybe you should hold off on your eBay bid: CEO Brian Mariotti tells Deadline that the scarcity should be short-lived, as additional waves of the cereal are in the works.

“We wanted to lead off with blue,

but you can expect to see white and pink colors in the next two editions with new figures in each,” he says.

The legendary NBC sitcom ran from 1985 to 1992, won 11 Emmy awards and spawned the spinoffs “Empty Nest” and “The Golden

Palace” before settling into a seemingly eternal life in syndication.
