Tried and Tru’

- By BRIAN COSTELLO

Trumaine Johnson got a rude welcome back from the Bills.

Johnson returned to the starting lineup Sunday after missing the previous five games with a quad injury. The Bills greeted him by targeting him on the first play. Rookie Robert Foster, who was signed off the practice squad Saturday, beat Johnson and Bills quarterback Matt Barkley hit him for a 47-yard gain.

“They had a game plan,” Johnson said while chuckling. “All credit to them. They did good. We lost today as a team.”

Johnson, who was signed by the Jets this offseason to a five-year, $72.5 million contract, did not seem all that bothered by the play.

“It’s not frustrating at all, man,” Johnson said. “You have four quarters in the game to play.”

Johnson has not had an impressive debut season with the Jets after coming over from the Rams. The Bills had success with a lot of lesserknown players Sunday, including Foster and Barkley.

“I’ve been in the league for seven years,” Johnson said. “You can’t sleep on nobody. It’s any given Sunday.” Jets coach Todd Bowles sounded like he is thinking about making some changes during the bye week. “We’re going to take a long, hard look at everything this week, coaches and players,” Bowles said. “We’re going to put the best guys out there that can help us get better. We’ll review everything we’re calling on both sides of the ball. That’s what you do during the bye week. We’re going to try like hell to win the last six games.”

The Jets’ wide receivers were missing in action again Sunday. Quincy Enunwa (4 catches, 18 yards), Jermaine

Kearse (2 catches, 16 yards) and Charone Peake (1 catch, 11 yards) had virtually no impact.

“This [crap is] frustrating,” Kearse said. “Trying to find ways to fix it. That’s the only thing we can do right now is try to figure it out.”

The Jets had just 1 yard in the first quarter, their lowest total in a quarter in a home game since 1991, according to CBS. ... The 313 yards given up in the first half were the most the Jets have allowed since a 2008 loss to the Broncos. ... Jets inactives were: WR Robby Anderson, QB Sam Darnold, WR Deontay Burnett, CB Rashard Robinson,

CB Derrick Jones, C Spencer Long and DL Folorunso Fatukasi. Darnold, who has a sprained foot, was not wearing a walking boot in the postgame locker room, a good sign for him.
