Adams: Nothing is changing with Bowles

- By BRIAN COSTELLO

If Jets safety Jamal Adams is trying to save Todd Bowles’ job, he has a funny way of showing it.

During his paid weekly interview on WFAN’s “CMB” show, Adams said the losing culture that existed with the Jets when he arrived in 2017 still exists. During an interview with Bleacher Report this spring, Adams said the Jets had a losing vibe, and players were doing the bare minimum when he was drafted. He vowed to change the culture.

He was asked Tuesday if things have changed.

“Honestly, I could sit here and sugarcoat everything,” Adams said. “But things have not changed. Obviously, we’re still losing. I’m not saying we have guys like that in the locker room. But at the same time, it’s not changing. It hasn’t changed. And we’ve been losing. At the end of the day, we’re going to get it fixed. Soon, the sun will shine.”

Adams sounded as if he was saying he could not actually say anything has changed because the team is 3-7. How could he say the losing vibe is gone with a record like that?

At the same time, he believes there are no longer players on the team like the ones he described from last year. Still, he did Bowles no favors with this answer in suggesting things have not changed over the past two years.

After Sunday’s loss, Adams was vocal about supporting Bowles and that he was not going to quit on the season even if others did.

“You can only say so much,” Adams said. “People come from different backgrounds. I was asked a question after the game if guys are going to quit. That’s something that I cannot control.

“Obviously, as one of the leaders on the team, I can do my best to change people’s mindsets and how they go about their business. But at the end of the day, everybody is a grown man. I damn sure won’t quit.”
